As more reviews come in, I shall lift quotes from some while leaving out others. Does anyone want to guess which reviews we’re leaving out? Lol. Still, I believe that some things need to be addressed. I take my writing seriously and want as many people to appreciate my books as possible.
Please take note. Below is a speculative horror fiction novel involving a zombie apocalypse. If some things in the story seem unrealistic, expect these details to make sense if given thought. Why do I need to set the record straight? Because a reviewer had noted that they didn’t find some details realistic. While I agree with some and disagree with most examples given, I feel like an unreasonable expectation was set by this reader. A sci-fi/speculative/horror fiction novel like Below presents scenarios that are possible if not the likeliest to occur. Therefore, readers and reviewers are encouraged to stay open to possibilities and not shoot down situations that don’t seem as lifelike as they want. The essence of speculative fiction is to consider many other angles than the likeliest, not pose as true crime/true horror. Fiction is supremely enjoyable because we can manipulate circumstances to our liking, therefore giving stories more breadth, more scope. Fiction of any type is not a true story/memoir/non-fiction.
Therefore, readers should know that I respect the opinions of others. I understand that people see things differently. We must agree to disagree with criticism dependent on subjective tastes. Honest feedback is not only welcomed but expected.
I would have filmed myself to relay these thoughts in video format, but hey, I’m a writer. If my interviews sound a bit awkward, it is because I am not as convincing as a public speaker. Therefore, the written word is a great medium to expound on this.
In closing, I hope more readers out there pick up the book. The paperback should be coming soon.
Cheers!
